Your Base and Basics
  • Accommodation: You are accommodated in the ideally located Gazebo Lodge, a bush Utopia on the fringe of two large dams which are oases to the resident game population. Spacious communal  areas include the comforts of a games room (equipped with pool table, darts, table tennis, and TV/DVD), a  large dining Lapa,  your own pub furnished with a fridge, an intimate gazebo under thatch, an under-the-African-sky outdoor Boma for barbeques, an indoor lounge with a dedicated-to-students computer and telephone, and a swimming pool. En-suite rooms are shared by four to six students (housed on a single sex basis) and all linens are provided, including bath towels.

  • Meals: South African cuisine is prepared each day by the resident cook. Breakfast consists of fruit, cereals, toast with spreads, with a cooked breakfast on Sundays.  Light lunches include pastas, fish and chips, hamburgers etc. The main meal, dinner, is comprised of meat and veggies. A permanent coffee/tea station is available and fruit juices are served with all meals. Specialized dietary requirements are catered for.
  • Transport: All transfers will be provided in roadworthy vehicles driven by drivers bearing public driving permits.
  • Weather: Hot and humid days in the Summer months of October – April (30C -35C plus.) where you get to witness awesome thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening. Warm, balmy and dry Winter months of May - September with temperatures dropping at night (12-14 degrees) and early morning.
  • Health, Safety and Medical Facilities: It is advisable to ask your Medical Practitioner/Pharmacist for the recommended malarial prophylactic (particularly during the Summer months), prior to commencing the course. In the event of minor injury, your resident coordinators are qualified in First Aid assistance. Medical practioners are 30 minutes away and the Private Hospital is located in Nelspruit (1 hour). There is also a reliable paramedic service in the area.

  • Phone and email facility:  A phone is available for your use at a rate of R3.00 per minute. Cellular connectivity is possible within perimeters of the Lodge. The internet facility is unpredictable, but in emergencies can be accessed at R50.00 per hour. A fortnightly trip is made to the neighbouring town where you can connect for R60.00 per hour

  • Insurance : Kwa Madwala Private Game Reserve carry the necessary public and passenger liability as is compulsory for Tour/Service Industry.  It is advisable that you insure your own valuables, as they may be at risk while off our reserve. Your own medical/travel insurance is strongly mandatory.
